Final Portfolio

Cover letter for portfolio:
In my portfolio I have included pieces of my writings that I have done through the course of English 151 that I think show how my writing has progressed. First is my major rewrite of our first paper. I made changes to this paper to make it better and meet the requirements. It began as not the best piece of writing. After taking this course I have a better understanding of why it was not good and how to make it better, which I tried to show. Second is the fourth paper that was required for the portfolio, but that from starting out in this class, the fourth paper shows how my writing has also progressed. Lastly I included the second paper from this course. I think that this paper shows the most how my writing has improved with the help of this course. I think that my grade should be raised to the fact that my work in this class started out rough. Due to this class I now have a much better understanding of how to write college papers. I think that in the papers I provided, they show the improvement that my writing has come to. This class was a great class that taught me a lot about writing and how to write proper papers.

In this paper I was trying to explain how the importance of grammar has changed. My main point was that sometimes it is important and sometimes it is not as important. I supported my claims by the article from Dawkins. I think that the argument about texting and how it changes how people write for academic purposes or for their jobs is working well in my paper. I think that maybe the generation part was not working so well. I want the readers to understand that writing has changed over the years and somethings are not as important as they used to be.

With this paper I tried to show the process of how I write. My main claim was that I consider myself a one draft writer and that I don't consider myself a good writer. To support my claim I wrote through the process that I go through when I write papers or articles. I think the good things about my paper were the details that I showed how I go about writing a paper. The parts of my paper that I am not too sure about are the intro and the conclusion because I wasn't positive how to go about them.

Intro for paper 4

The importance of grammar and how it is important in someones writing have been misleading. Being taught that there are one set of specific rules that you have to follow when we write hurts the creativity of a person. Thinking  that you have only one way to write and this way is the only correct way make a person trying to write just not be able to be creative. The more they lose their creativity aspect the more boring the article becomes. I have always followed the guidelines or rules that I was taught when I was in school. It affected how I thought of my own writing. So the importance of grammar has two sides, and which is the better way to get the point of what you are writing across?

February 27 homework.

Summary:
In their article they performed a little experiment where they took a first year student and doctorate student and made them do the same task. The outcome was that both students concluded that with a longer time as age and experience that people write with more authority.

QD:
3) Janet doesn't think that there is room for anyone else's opinion in paper and she just reexplains what she finds in research in her paper. Roger has more of a conversation type of writing and writes with more authority.
4) She doesn't think that she can write something that goes against a published authors pieces. She doesn't state her own ideas and restates what the published authors have already wrote.
5) I think that my type of writing falls under Janet's type. I am very straight forward and stay behind what other authors have published.

MM:
One way is that I will try to put my own ideas into the paper. Another is that I will not just restate the research, I will try to be more confident.

I thought that this was a good article to read and get an understanding of what I need to do to help me personally with my 4th paper.
